1616 Esay Lanchbuery of Chadlington, Oxfordshire
I am the direct descendant (g8 grandson) of Esay Lanchbuery. Esay (Isaac) Lanchbury was born middle of five children of Hercules Launchbury (1580-1645) and Mary (d.1654) about 1616. He was born into the small village of Chadlington, Oxfordshire, and baptised at the church of All Saints on December 7, 1616.
I am transcribing his will, -

In the name of God Amen the sixteenth day of Aprill in the yeare of o?r Lord God one thousand six hundred & Eighty I Esay Lanchbury of Chadlington in the County of oxon Husbandman being weake in body but of p?fect mind and memory prayse bee therefore given to Almighty God I doe make & ordayne this my p?sent last Will & Testament in manner and forme following (that is to say) ffirst and principally I commend my Soule into the hands of Almighty God hoping through the merritts death and passion of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my Sinns and to inheritt everlasting Life And my body I committ to the Earth to bee decently buried at the discretion of my Execu? hereafter named And as touching the disposition of all such temporall Estate as it [hath] pleased Almighty God to bestow upon mee I give and dispose thereof [as] followeth ffirst I will that my debts & funerall charges shall bee payd & discharged It? I give & bequeath unto my Sonne W illiam Lanchbury the Summe of twenty pounds to bee paid to him by my Executor at the end of two years after my decease and one halfe yard Land after the de[cease] of my wife namely that halfe yard Land which I formerly purchased of John Toolley It? I give & bequeath unto my daughter Joane Lanchbury the Sume of fforty pounds to bee paid to her by my Executor three y[ears] after my decease It? I give & bequeath unto my Sonne Esay Lanchbury one band? of ffifty shillings and all that Estate houses & all the Appurte[nances] belonging to that yard Land commonly called Spooners Yard Land upon condition that hee shall pay or cause to be payd three pounds a year to his Sister Mary Lanchbury during her naturally or see that shee [is?] carefully provided for or otherwise halfe that Estate aforesaid during h[er life?] but in case my Sonne Esay Lanchbury dieth & never marrieth [the?] Estate shall bee to & for my Sonne William Lanchbury and m[____] hee bee the longer liver and if it shall happen soe, then hee shall p[ay] or cause to bee payd unto my daughter Mary Lanchbury the [sume of] foure pounds yearly and every during her Life and taking Suff?[____] of her and see that shee bee noe ways wronged It? I will that my debts & funeral charges shall be paid & discharged
I give unto my son William Lanchbury the sum of twenty pounds to be paid to him by my Executor at the end of two years after my decease and one half yard land after the decease of my wife, namely that half yard land which I formerly purchased of John Toolley
I give unto my daughter Joane Lanchbury the sum of forty pounds to be paid to her by my Executor three years after my decease
I give unto my son Esay Lanchbury one band? of fifty shillings and all that estate, houses & all the appurtenances belonging to that yard land commonly called Spooners Yard Land, upon condition that he shall pay or cause to be paid three pounds a year to his sister Mary Lanchbury during her natural life or see that she [is?] carefully provided for or otherwise half that estate aforesaid during h[er life?] but in case my son Esay Lanchbury dies & never marries [the?] estate shall be to & for my son William Lanchbury and m[____] he be the longer liver and if it shall happen so, then he shall pay or cause to be paid unto my daughter Mary Lanchbury the [sum of] four pounds yearly and every [ year] during her life and taking Suff?[____] of her and see that she be no way wronged
I give unto Elizabeth my wife & my son John Lanchbury my [____] all my chattels and corn and do make him coexecutor with Elizabeth my wife in all things except my household goods that shall be to my wife Elizabeth & at her disposing except one bedstead and all the furniture belonging to one bed or bedstead to my son John Lanchbury
And I do hereby revoke disannul and make void all former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made
