1795 Sophia Mee nee Calladine of Heanor

Journal by Dave Calladine

Sophia was born out of wedlock to Anne Calladine (1774 - ) in the small town of Heanor in Derbyshire,

She married THOMAS MEE 1817 - his second wife. He was born 1775 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.

Notes for THOMAS MEE:(SOURCE BEN MEE)

In 1797 Thomas (22) married Phylis Wood (20) and they had 11 children in just 19 years. All of the children were born in Eastwood, with exception of the 2nd and 3rd children, whom were born two niles away in Heanor. The last child, Daniel, died when only a few weeks old, and Phylis followed him within the year.

Thomas, now 43, remarried in Heanor three months later, to Sophia (22) Calladine, the illegitamate daughter of Ann Calladine. Ben describes her a member of a prominent family in Heanor. She provided him with five more children. Thomas who had lived all his life in Eastwood, moved to Heanor, continuing as a frame work knitter. The last child Adam was born a few months before Thomas's 60th birthday.

Life as a Frame work knitter was not easy. working long hours from home, the hand frame required fairly strenous exertion. Sophia would have finnished the stockings (sewn) ready for collection, and the children would have helped as well. The youngest winding the bobbins.

Children of SOPHIA CALLADINE and THOMAS MEE are:
i. ELIZA MEE, b. 1823.
ii. NOAH MEE, b. June 11, 1829, Heanor, Derbyshire; m. JANE PORTER, June 14, 1885, Kewanee, Illinois.
