Ada Florence Rackstraw

Query by mars13

I am currently researching for an Ada Florence Rackstraw

I can confirm Ada was a domestic servant and I think a resident at number 10 Murray Road in Northwood, Ruislip, Northwood, U D in around 1930 to about 1937. Ada gave birth on the eighth of February 1935 at the Hillingdon, County Hospital Hillingdon, Uxbridge, U D. The baby was either then put up for adoption or was part of the stolen baby generation.

Ada was around 25 years old and not married at the time of the birth. I honestly can't imagine who hard it must have been for Ada in those days, I'm thankful that Ada would if had a lot of support from her close friends at the time.

A Constance Rae and James Rae appear with Ada on the London, England Electoral Registers, 1832-1965 from around 1930 up to 1937 at 10 Murray Road. Both Constance and James would have been very supportive towards Ada in those difficult months. I assume Ada kept her her job as domestic servant after giving birth for another two years. Both Constance and James appear on the electoral register at the above address right to around 1949.

My request is to find out more about Ada Florence Rackstraw her family and the father of her child

Thank you for your reply

The first thing that caught my eye was the transcribers note "not yet christened" Thanks you for that information, I looked at that for quite along time and thought it was written in a different language.

On the Ancestry UK Outward Passengers list is a Mrs Rackstraw who was travelling with her two children unaccompanied by her husband departed London England to Bombay India on the 22 April 1910. Both children was listed as 1 year old. I've noticed a few variations on the female name Ada, this information is consistent with yours so this could be the Ada or Aida Looking for.

Ada gave birth in 1935 so that would make her about 25 years old. I can imagine how hard it was for Ada Giving birth and not being married. The baby was adopted or fostered out to a Evelyn Russell Gordon the owner and resident of Harcombe House in Harcombe Bottom, near the historic seaside of Lyme Regis
