... 22 May 1886 Mr Buckland left for Sydney yesterday with eleven head of choice cattle and seven horses, inclufing Comedy, who won the Waikato Hunt Club Steeplechase. Many friends attended the Rotomahana to see Mr Buchland off. Comedy, it will be remembered, was bred at Rotorangi, and was the property of Messrs Grice. There is a general expression of regret that Mr Buckland should be lost to the community

- Richard died in May 1883 and a long obituary was written in the Waikato Times ... the form and face of Mr Gwynne were so familiar to all who lived in or visited Hamilton, that his departure from their midst will create a void which nothing can fill up ... a native of Rosstrevor, in the County Down, he left the Old Country in the year 1849, and made a tour of North and South America ... the ship in which he took passage was unhappily wrecked at Barwon Heads, and Mr Gwynne, who was an expert swimmer, was among the number of those who reached the land ... he had long been suffering from disease of the liver, until at length dropsy supervened ... the remains of the late Mr Gwynne were interred in the Hamilton West cemetery beside those of his two sons who died shortly afyer the family's arrival in Waikato ...

Mr Roche had been residing in Te Awamutu for over twenty years. He had been many years on the staff of the 'Waikato Times'. Polite and courteous to all with whom he came in contact, he was a favourite with all, especially the ladies ...
