I had a quick look but couldn't find anything on the birth of Alexander. I did find a few Lyon's in Kincardine around the date of Alexanders birth but not with parents Samuel & Ann.

Do you have a copy of the registry of the marriage, it could possibly be that the first date is one of Banns or they were married in both Glenbeverie and Fordoun, which was not uncommon.

Scotlands People have two marriages for Alexander & M Ross one in November and one in Dec, might be worth checking both, pay per view site.

The marriage date I have for Alexander & Margaret came from the Scotland marriage index. I haven't found anything about marriage vs banns.
There is someone working very hard on one of these lines and she has Alexander's death date 1 June 1861. So I used her expertise.
In the 1861 census she is head of the house. They own 90 acres with family & 4 labourers. To me this means they are very well off for the time and place. What do you think? I thought land ownership documents might help. I don't know.

Just about Alexander Lyon's parents.. When I input his name into family search..
it was their computer that tucked those names onto my pedigree chart as a HINT.
So that is why I am trying to document it but they may not be his parents at all.

To help with your research.

Get of a copy of both the marriages and a copy of his death in 1861 from GRO Scotland (Scotlands people), the image from Scotalnds People is the actual page from registry book.

If the image "film" you are looking at is not an original directly from the registry book I'd be very careful, there are some transcript out there that are not accurate.

In family search some of the transcript do not match up with the original registry document I have several that have transcribed the details of the person below or above, especially the pre 1855 documents. There are documents where it has name of child etc, but no parents listed but the transcriber has put the names from the one above or it is is written crookedly and runs into the one below. I also have seen images claiming to be births but they are actual baptisms, the top of the page is missing so an assumption was made.


It is always best to go to the original document, even if you have a "film" it should give you a source detail, go to the source and see if you can find the original source. Another place to check would be the actual parish record office or church office.

Yahoo! I found Magaret's parents. None of any pieces of her info had enough to confirm her parents names until I found the 1841 census and that brought all the other bits into the picture. :) I now have Margaret Ross daughter of Robert Ross & Margaret Barclay.
