I live in Craigieburn, Victoria, Australia and I am researching Edwin Andrews & Eliza Legier Smyth who married in Castlemaine in 1857 in the local school house. Edwin and Eliza were my great-great grandparents. I have been unable to find definitive information on either of them. Their marriage certificate says that Edwin was born at sea but I suspect he may have been born in England and his parents were Richard Andrews and Hester Durbuy or possibly Durbin. Eliza parents were Robert Smyth and Margaret De St Leger. Eliza was born in County Limerick but I am not sure whether she was born in Limerick City or in Rathkeale where the family later lived. The marriage certificate has a number of crossing outs on it and is hard to read. I tried to get access to the original Church register but this has disappeared. The current register starts from the time the church was built.
