BIRCHENOUGH Chorlton cum Hardy
Thomas BIRCHENOUGH born Dec 18th 1874 in Chorlton cum Hardy, married to Elizabeth Ann Edwards of Moffat St Nottingham.
Thomas was my grandfather and was an excellent sculptor and stone mason. He worked on the Sheffield City Hall and some of the decoration around the top of the building was done by him, I have also seen many gravestones in The Crookes Cemetery carved by him. He also taught at Sheffield College of Art. When I was young my mother took me to see a violin that he had carved ,it could have been in Norton Cemetery, I went back many years later but could not find it. I do have a photo of it.

Your Grandfather sounds like he was a very talent person. Have you been able to locate where the violin is?
I too am researching the Birchenough family. I go back a far as 1822 with Charles from Maccelsfield. Albert one of his son's moved around and ended up in Ardwick, Manchester. Other decendants of Charles also move to Chorlton.
I don't know if there is any family connection.

Sorry late in replying been staying with my son in Spain for 5 weeks .
I think the Birchenoughs from what I have found in my searching were nearly all stonemasons or sculptors. My Gfather was Thomas born 1874 who married Elizabeth Ann Edwards born 1875 of Nottingham . My GGfather was James Birchenough and GGm was Annie.I would love to see your family tree.
Best wishes
