"UPDATE" Boroondara General Cemetery, Kew
I'm hoping that someone can visit the Cemetery and see if our family plot has a headstone.
I've contacted the Cemetery but they couldn't assist me.
Details

I have my fingers crossed that there is a headstone with more details on James SIMPSON as we don't know who he is and no death certificate can be found anywhere. He is a real mystery.
Comments
From lorbor, I have many relos at this cemetery names SMITH, GILLETT and will be visiting to locate more details of family within next two weeks. Will look for details you require and will let you know what is found. Regards
Thank you very much.
I'm hoping it will provide some further information.
I asked a friend of mine who was going over there to have a look;
Here are his findings;
The headstone on the grave (IND B 0077) reads as follows...
In Loving Memory Of
Florence Norgrove
"Called to be with Jesus"
28th Nov 1901.
Also
Theophilus Corban
Norgrove
Beloved Husband Of
E.A. Norgrove.
Entered into rest 8th Aug 1909.
"God Is Love"
Poor old James does not get a mention.
I suspect that James may have been a resident at the Asylum at Kew, was he Florence's boyfriend ??? only 2 years difference in the birth date... or a friend of the family ????
I have tried every trick in the book and it is brick wall after brick wall.
Got photos of the Grave/Headstone if you want them.
Regards
Do you want photos? jan
Hi Jan
Thanks very much for taking the time to have your friend look at the Gravestone, I'd love a copy of the photos.
I've been in contact with the Vic BDM team and they are doing some research for me into who he is, they think that perhaps he was registered under another name, they have advise that it could take them several weeks to track the death down but there are no guarantees that they will find him.
My Great Great Grandfather Theophilus and his daughter Florence were Wesleyan Methodist, so no boyfriend for Florence. Theophlius father John/Joseph Corban Norgrove was a Wesleyan Minister.
The E.A. Norgrove mentioned is Elizabeth Ann Keigwin she died on 14 Feb 1888 in Worcestershire England.
Theo his daughters Clara b1867, Emily Jane b1869, Florence b1872 and Ethel b1874 came to Australia after Elizabeth's death. His youngest son Theophilus Leslie Trewhella Norgrove stayed behind, there is a bit of a mystery as I don't know who he stayed with and he dropped the Theophilus and married Elsie Grigg and served in the Royal Navy in the WW1 as Leslie Trewhella Norgrove he died 1916 when the HMS Defence was destroyed, his body was not recovered.
Theo's eldest son John Thomas Norgrove b1859 arrived in Australia 1882, and was married in 1888 Melbourne, not sure if the family came out for his wedding and stayed, still a question there.
Daughters Florence & Ethel I can account for but I have no idea what happened to Clara and Emily Jane - did they return to England or marry can't find anything after the death of their father Theo 1909.
I have details for most of the Norgrove and Keigwin families - apart from Clara & Emily Jane.
Thank you again for taking the time to get the photos, I look forward to seeing them.
I have received information on my mysterious "James Simpson" it turns out his name is TIMPSON not Simpson, no wonder I couldn't find it.
VIC BMD have sent me a copy of the Death Register.
May 27th 1915
Austin Hospital Plenty Road, Heidelberg VIC
James Thomas Timpson - Builder
Male - 40 years
Pulmonary & Laryngeal Tuberculosis
Father Henry Timpson - Cork Merchant
Mother Not known
Informant Emily Timpson - wife Albion Street, Surrey Hills VIC
Where Born & How Long in Australia
Portsmouth England - Victoria 1 1/2 years Queensland 3 years
Where & what age and to Whom married
Moseley England, 38, Emily Norgrove, living
No Issues.
I've had a look at the England BMD and the marriage is there,
Marriages Dec 1913 (>99%)
Norgrove Emily J Timpson Kings N 6d 186
Timpson James T Norgrove Kings N. 6d 186
so it looks like Emily returned to England after the death of her father in 1909, and then came back with James Timpson, another avenue to investigate.
Emily is on the Vic 1914 Census in Albion Street Surrey Hills, Vic but as Emily Norgrove not Emily Timpson this will need further investigation as well.
Thank you to all who spent time and energy digging around for this information, I now have a lot more questions to answer and definitely more digging to be done.
Thank you everyone for your help
that's a good result; and so much easier to find than Simpson.
The Argus, 29 May 1915
TIMPSON. -On the 26th May, James Thomas,
beloved husband of Emily Timpson, formerly of Portsmouth, England.
Thanks Janilye, I'll have a look at that.
My challenge now is to find out what happened to her after James' death and see if I can locate her travel dates between UK and Australia, between her fathers death and her husbands death.
I've sent off for their marriage to confirm she is the right Emily Jane Norgrove but I'm pretty sure she will be.
I think I've found James Thomas Timpson's birth in 1873 in Portsea, Hampshire England registered as Thomas James Timpson but I'll wait for the marriage certificate before ordering anything more.
Have a look at Henry Thomas Edmund Timson 1843-1894 married Catherine Caroline Smith 1827-1894 on the HORWOOD tree in ancestry.com.au
I looked at all the census records and this family seems to be the one.
Thanks Janilye I'll certainly take a look at that.
I'm hoping to find some living relatives out there.
Hello everyone. I am the great-grand-daughter of Thomas Corban Norgrove through his daughter Ethel who married William Kerr. Ethel died in 1957. She and William had one surviving child, my mother Ethel Marjorie Kerr, born 26/11/1913,married Charles Henry Calland Scoble in 1942. She is still alive and with excellent memory, having celebrated her centenary last November.I am her second child and I married Lindsay John Juniper. We have three daughters and six grandchildren, all living in Victoria
We have a studio photo of Theophilus, also one of him as an old man sitting in a deck chair at my mothers home, still her home, in Castlemaine, Victoria.
I look forward to hearing from someone.
I'd love to catch up. I have loads of information on the Norgroves
