Lookout Thomas Burns, I'm closing in.
This was hard to find because the announcement was in the name of the mother of the bride's second husband.

I think it's odd that this couple were married in 1912 yet Rex wasn't born till 1928. I haven't found any bd&m for sisters Joyce and Audrey yet. Found a burial for a Joyce Rachel Burns 1929-1993 at Karrakatta. Just don't see why the children were born so late. No deaths for Thomas James Burns in WA. But I'm almost certain I know now who he is. If it's the Thomas I think it is he was born in Qld in 1887 and died in Qld in 1961. I have a lot of info on Mr.And Mrs. C Burns of Balcaldine.

MR. CHARLES BURNS.There passed away at his home in Barcaldine last Sunday night at 10 p.m: a well-known Barcaldine and Western resident in Mr. Charles Burns, at the age of 76. The funeral on Monday afternoon was largely attended. Mr. Burns is survived by a wife, four sons and one daughter. Mr. Burns had only been ill a few weeks and his end was quite unexpected.

There are 2 Obituaries for Charles in The Western Champion Saturday 1 March 1930 but I haven't corrected the text and it is too late to do it now. You should be able to read it, it's not too dark. It mentions Tommy being in the Cairns district which is where Rex was born ( Townsville) so maybe there is a divorce somewhere. There's also one there in the Townsville Bulletin.
Looks like I found your Thomas Burns but not the story.

Not sure about George Bertram because I found an Elizabeth Louisa Burns daughter of Louisa Elizabeth and she died in 1909

Sorry about my delayed response I am so lucky that you are awsome at this detective work this Thomas Burns is one hard person too find I can't belive how much you found out about them and in such a short time you are good at this. Well you have found the correct Rex Burns all the information you sent me is all correct I have confirmed all this. Now Mr Thomas Burns from what you found its seems that it must be the Thomas we are looking for I tried to find further info to move forward.
ok this is what I found.
Rex Burns did marry Jean Burns and all other info correct the date he died is also correct.
Audrey was Rex's Sister she got married to Cyril Balinski I also found a photo of Tom Burns with Cyril so they must have kept some Contact or atleast with Audrey.
Joyce all I found out is she married Bill Thomas
And that's about it the one thing that might help is I found a small photo of Rex,Tom and their is a woman just with a "M"' I take it that could be Rita this is the only photo I have found of Rex with his Parents that's if it is Rita in the photo.

Well hope you find this interesting its been alot of work too get this far but its all worth it.
