Dear Helen, G'day. There are quite a few websites/links/journals that you can at least try and do some online research. At familytreecircles, type Scotland in the top right-hand corner and press Search.

Hello,

would you happen to know if Alexander and Margaret Housten had a son named Henry? I am very certain he was their son but I havent been able to confirm this. So far I know he had an older brother named Alexander, and both travelled to New Zealand from Australia to work in the Swizer mine. Their family was originally from scotland and emigrated to Australia in the 1800's. Henry named one daughter margaret, and another Isabella Housten which also leads me to believe Margaret Housten was his mother. it would be great if you could help me to confirm this suspicion.

Hello Amy, Alexander and Margaret Baxter married 4 Jun 1784 Dysart Fife Scotland. I don't have a correct date of birth just 1760 Scotland. Alexander and Margaret Houston had a son Henry b25 Dec 1839 Dunfirmline Scotland and he married Helen Kay in NZ.on the 26 Dec 1871 at Otago NZ. Helen was b 1849 in Carnoustle, Scotland. Alex and Margaret Houston came here in 1849 with 9 of their 10 children. Henry had 7 Children, I'm a direct decendent of Alexander1 James and Jemima Coulter then James and Minnie Greatorex (m2) who had my mum then me.
Amy who do you belong to? In Edinbourgh I have a cousin 3times removed
Ellen Ward nee Carnie who come down on the Alexander and Margaret Baxter line do you belong to that line.

Cheers Helen

Hello,

I have just checked over the information I have been able to gather (I have all the information of my line of Carnie's from NZ) and the information I have of Henry Carnie matches with what you have just said so yes I do come from the Alexander + Margaret Baxter Carnie line. Alex+Margaret Housten had Henry, who married Helen Johnston Kay in Dundedin/otago NZ, they had 8 children of which only one boy survived, George Colquhoun Carnie, who married Flora Zylpha Lawrence in Dunedin NZ, and had 4 children, the oldest of which was Frederick Henry Carnie who had four daughters and two sons, the youngest child Ian Carnie, has five children of which I am the fourth.
So i'm guessing we are also cousins of some sort?

Thanks Amy

Also I dont know what you were able to find re your original post, but I have searched for and found Margaret Baxter and accessed Alexander through her and traced back a bit further. I could not find Margarets parents names or her date of birth unfortunately.

James Cairne + Katherine (lastname unknown)(birth dates marriage dates unkown)
|
James Cairne (c1730) + Isobel Ness
(married 28 Nov 1754, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland)
|
Alexander Cairne (b. 27 April 1760, Markinch, Fife, Scotland)+ Margaret Baxter (c.1760) married 4 June 1784

and you know the rest from there.

Hello Amy, I've just checked my files and found I don't have any info on Frederick Henry Carnie except that he was born 14 Jan 1911 in Dunedin NZ. and he died 21 Sep 1967 I assume also im Dunedin. Can you give me who he married and his children also who they married an children Please. Did Frederick's 2 sisters or brother marry I don't have anything on them.
If that James and Katherine are the parents then that will put the dates back to 1690-1715.
Cheers Cousin 4times removed I think.
