Family Search has the full 1881 for free.
Or this new data base Freecan.org I haven't used it yet. Which volunteers and family history societies have spent many hours transcribing. Just remember these transcriptions may not be accurate, you should always check with the original document to ensure its accuracy. If you do find what you are looking for through this Freecen give us the names/place/date and somebody in here will check it for you. If it is British or Australian I will copy the page from the book and email it to you.

You could try your local library. They may have a subscription to Ancestory that you can access for free.

If you are looking in USAM and your library doesn't have a subscription to Ancestry, they may have one to Heritage Quest. I got a lot of census info from the library in Harris County, TX (located in the local community college.) All you need is a library card.

sorry, added an "M" by mistake...USA is what I meant.
