Coffey family question

Query by Robt0147

I am told that my great grandfather, Calvin Allen Coffey, was born in Grainger County, Tenn. The town of Rutledge is mentioned. His father was James Coffey. Calvin fought in the Civil War (59th Tenn Mounted Infantry), was captured at Vicksburg and paroled (later re-enlisted in violation of that parole). As far as I know, James died in Grainger County as did his wife Sarah (Sally) Fielding.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I believe you're right. The census taker mis-spelled the last name. All the first names jive with other information, except for "Jael Coffee" which should be "Joel Coffey".

Thank you for your assistance!! Any information available about any of the other children that you know of?

Thanks again.
