Connecting the Beresford Dots

Journal by bronwen

Michael Beresford of Otford & The Squires, Westerham, Kent, d. in 1608 & married Rose Knyvett before 1566 (1st of 3 wives). By her he had, among other children, Cornelius Beresford, who was living in 1619. He married twice, 1st to Elizabeth Selyiard (who was also his step-sister), 2nd to Dorothy Petley, daughter of Edward Petley. I am trying to establish Cornelius as father of one Christopher Beresford, c.1630-1691, who married "Elizabeth". Some on-line pedigrees show this but give his mother as Elizabeth Selyiard. However, her mother's will shows that she was dead by 1613 & could not have had a child in 1630. He could, however, be the son of Dorothy Petley in terms of the chronology. I have not found evidence of this, however, and it is this evidence that I seek.

Christopher Beresford was said to have been the father of Tristram Beresford, 1680-1741 (not the Tristram who went to Ireland), who married Anne Betley (Petley?). They were the parents of Edward Beresford, b. c. 1693, who married "Caroline". They were the parents of Christine Beresford, d. 1795, who married Hugh Webb of Culverhayes, Chard, Somerset. The generations between this Christine Beresford and her purported g-g-grandfather Cornelius are the puzzle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
