COOPER,FLORENCE MINNIE of ESSEX (England)
Very stuck!!!!! Florence Minnie COOPER my great grandmother born about 1919 in Essex adopted by a Adjutant and Mrs COOPER.
Adjutant is the old title for Major in The Salvation Army of the time. Was probably an unofficial adoption.
Florence gave birth to my grandfather in 1937 at The Salvation Army Mothers Hospital in Hackney. At this time she was living with and caring for her parents both somewhat blind at Elmslea,Lascelles Gardens,Ashingdon,Rochford. In the 1950's she lived at 37 Preston rd Westcliff-on-sea; i believe the owner of the property was Alfred George GILHAM or GILLHAM.
My grandfather kept his past to himself i found all the above information myself took a punt he was born at The Mothers Hospital (Hackney) and contacted The Salvation Army and bingo i found my g/gran's name etc. My grandfather Maurice COOPER now deceased emigrated in 1952 with the Salvation Army to Australia and became a child in care working as a farmhand.
Maurice's death cert states father Herbert James COOPER and Florence's birth name been Laurie however i know the info is as good as the person giving it which was my aunt so i am very confused as to whose father was Herbert; i think most likely Florence's adopted father however this is unconfirmed.
The Salvation army cannot give me Maurice's putative father's name as there is a law preventing this however i will survive if i can find what happened to Florence and would love to know her story.
I have posted this hoping someone has her in their tree or knows of Florence Thankyou
P.S I hear it was possible Florence is or at least was still living in Essex in the 1990's. I have also attempted to obtain a birth cert for Florence with no luck.

I think you are going to find its difficult to find Florence Minnie COOPER's birth unless you know her surname before she was adopted. There is a law in the uk that allows Adopted children to have access to the adoption papers if it is formal adoption.
I have adopted an adopted child who has found his mothers name, but not the father.
