Corps of Yorkshire

Journal by James_Corps

There are variant spellings to be found within the Corps family
eg Edward Corpse m Ealse Stoupe in St Germaine's Marske on Sea N Yorks
Also son John is found with both Corpse and Corps spellings
Corpes crops up occasionally but closer examination of the data limks
these as part of the same family. One family retains the spelling Corpse (Greatham Co Durham) until Matthew goes to London then Reading founding an organ building company that first started life as a coffin manufacturer. Presumably having the spelling corpse was not good for business
By the time Simeon sets up his seed business at Hurworth Co Durham he is content that the spelling be Corps.
There are Corps families that are in Lancashire and Northumberland that I have as yet been unable to find a connection, but I continue to try There are also Corps' in Lincolnshire , around Barton upon Humber I feel that there is an undiscovered link here somewhere
My main family site is on Myheritage.com and is admissable by sending your e mail address to jimcorps1@live.co.uk

Hello, my name is John Dickinson. Is the Simeon Corps you mention the same Simeon who married Alvinza Lamonby in Morpeth in 1913? Alvinza was my great aunt, sister to my maternal grandfather, George Lamonby.
