Curiouser and curiouser....
Some time ago I wrote about my elusive great grandfather. Since then another mystery has come to light. Registering the births of their first three children, my great grandmother used her maiden name of Udall. When she registered the births of the last 2 she used the name Siddons.
The last two children were born in 1933 and 1939 and were registered as Webb. I have checked the records from 1920 to 1950 to see if there was a marriage for a Doreen Udall or Webb to anyone named Siddons. There was not. The question then is why would Doreen Lucy Udall use a different name when registering her last 2 children than the maiden name she used when registering the first three.? She did not marry, did not change her name legally and to my knowledge, and the knowledge of her children, was not acquainted with anyone known by the name Siddons. I can only wonder what her youngest two children thought when they saw the name Siddons on their birth certificates.

Some time ago, I built part of my tree using the GRO as one relative (with a fairly uncommon surname) married a lady with an equally uncommon surname and there were 10 children recorded as being born to that couple.
When a descendant made contact with me, she insisted that there should only be 7 children.
It transpired that grandma had gone off and had a further 3 children with A.N.Other/s - but registered them with hubby as the father.
Eventually the youngest 3 were put up for adoption and grandma returned home.
Just a thought.
