Daniel and Evans families

Journal by WalchaNSW

My research is into my DANIEL ancestors from Devon, who appear in East London mid-19th C, and my EVANS ancestors from Pwllheli, Caernarvonshire, Wales. Descendants of both found their way to New South Wales in 1850s and 1890s respectively.

Mary Elizabeth DANIEL (1845-1906) was my 2x great grandmother, who is said to have come to NSW aged 16 years with her brother William Haydon DANIEL (1841-1885), presumably after their parents died in East London. They lived with their aunt and uncle in Walcha NSW.

Griffith EVANS (b.1829) was the innkeeper of the Peny Bont Inn, Pen Y Bont, Llanystumdwy, Pwllheli (1861 Census). He and wife Mary JONES (b.1834) had a family of about 13 children. Son John (1864-1929) came to NSW with his brother Robert (b.1869) in about 1890.
