DAVID BALHARRY (1842-1889) arrived in Napier in 1868
(before Sep 1868 which was when he appeared in Napier Court for being a Militia defaulter. He said he could not possibly attend on account of illness. He had not obtained a medical certificate because there was no militia surgeon and it would cost him a guinea. He was fined 10s ($54 in 2012) and costs)

DAVID BALHARRY died on 15 April 1889 at Redclyffe aged 47
16 April 1889 David Balharry, at one time manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company, but lately agent of the Imperial and United Insurance Company, was found dead in the Tutaekuri river, near Redcliffe bridge, Napier yesterday afternoon. His neck was broken. On the bridge were his horse, coat, hat and watch. The appearance leaves no doubt of suicide. He jumped about 30ft into shallow water. Financial difficulties are supposed to be the cause of his act
- he left a note addressed to Mr Patten, the Collector of Customs, saying that through his life he had comtemplated suicide. He died to save his creditors, had no fear of sheol and believed death was a dreamless sleep. He left a widow and seven children and an insurance in the Government office of ?1500 (equivalent in 2012 to $282,000) - the inquest

MARY LOUISA died 30 May 1891 aged 39
