Holliday Holloway

George Enos Holloway was born in Devon in August 1837
- he arrived in New Zealand at a young age

In 1896 according to a report of the Auckland Audit Office, George was a Baker in Te Awamutu and applied to the court for an order releasing him from bankruptcy

In 1908 he was a retired Baker in Morrinsville as was Mary Holloway (his wife) & Clive Stevenson Holloway, a Carpenter (a son)

In August 1938 George died just 12 days after celebrating his 101st birthday

In the 'Residents' of Old Cemetery Thames St, Morrinsville, George died in 1938 aged 101 and Mary Holloway died in 1935 aged 85

George Enos Holloway was married to a Mary ? (research continuing)
- they may have married in the UK and had children before emigrating as not all the reported 14 children have yet been found - those so far found born in New Zealand are:
1872 - 1930 Martha Holloway
- Martha married a Farmer, Charles Edward HOLLIDAY (1872-1960) in 1898
- the known children of Martha & Charles were:
1899 - Elizabeth Frances Holliday
- Elizabeth married Francis Sydney WHITEHEAD in 1928
1901 - 1992 Samuel Holliday
- Samuel married Hazel May SINTON in 1925
- a daughter of James Walter SINTON & Elizabeth Frances GUNN
- their 3 other daughters were:
* Violet Elizabeth Janet Sinton (married Andrew ANDERSEN 1921)
* Isabel/Isabella Myrtle Sinton (married Francis Joseph BIRCH 1926)
* Gwendoline Eva Sinton (married Marcus Phillip Andrews)
1903 - 1957 Walter Henry Holliday
1905 - 1967 Charles Holliday
1909 - 1975 Albert Holliday

Martha died on 4 April 1930 aged 57
Charles died on 18 October 1960 aged 88
- they are buried together in PRESBYTERIAN DIVISION D Row 14, Plot 35 at Waitakere Cemetery Auckland


1876 - 1955 Rhoda Holloway
- Rhoda married Lewis Ancil Heath TOZER (1881-1966) in 1908


1878 - 1942 George Enos Holloway
- married Ellen Kate PRINCE(S) (1883-1971) in 1907
- In 1902 George & his brother Walter were living in Morrinsville when they enlisted for war. George's occupation was listed as a Carpenter and Walter as a Railway Porter.
Their next of kin was their father Mr H. E. (G.E.?) Holloway of Morrinsville
- he served in the Boer War as Private 8733 with the 10th New Zealand North Island Contingent, B Squadron, as did his brother Walter Henry Holloway, Private 8704
- (their Serial Numbers tell us they enlisted at the same time)
- he served with the 40th Regiment in the Taranaki Campaign in 1860
- also in the Waikato Campaign 1863-1864
- In the Auckland City Council Engineers Department Register of Employees 1901-1930 George Enos Holloway was registered as a Carpenter in Huia Valley from 22-6-1927 to 30-9-1929


1881 - 1882 Maude Holloway
- Maude died aged 11 months


1883 - 1954 Walter Henry Holloway
- Walter married May Catherne FYNDALE (1890-1944) in 1912
- In the Auckland City Council Engineers Department Register of Employees 1901-1930Walter Henry Holloway of Challinor St, St Heliers, Auckland was registered as a Labourer in the Tamaki District from 13-8-1930 - (also see notes at his brother George Enos)
- Walter died on 21 June 1954 aged 71
- he is buried Block H Row 12 Plot 021 at Purewa Auckland


1884 - 1970 Clive Stevenson Holloway
- Clive married Florence Clara WEBSTER (1885-1977) in 1912


1885 - 1886 Marian Holloway
- Marian died aged 11 months


1887 - 1967 Ada Violet Holloway
- Ada married Walter BELL in 1919


1891 - 1894 Albert Edward Holloway
- Albert died aged 3
