Donaldsons of Dunedin
Hi,
I'm the great granddaughter of William Donaldson and Eliza Mercer of Dunedin. I am the granddaughter of Jean Donaldson. I was born and live in Australia possibly only because my grandmother migrated here in about 1918 I believe. Are there any descendants still left in NZ? Or in Australia? from branches of the same siblings. My GM was one of 17 children. I did not meet her as she died before I was born; or any other siblings/relatives. I believe my mother was in touch with a 'Cousin Edgar" in NZ, for sometime throughout her life and also earlier on Mercer Donaldson who was a dancer. I would love to hear any stories and history about the family- and the farm. Ironically, I have been to both their birth places in Scotland, but not to Dunedin although I have been twice to NZ. I also know one of the brothers went to Patagonia, and also I would like to know about a younger Donaldson brother that my mother spoke of who drowned near home. Also, I think my mother or brother, was in touch with a Neil Donaldson.
Thank you

Hi,
I recently joined Family Tree Circles and just discovered this post. I'm hoping you still an active member as I think we share the same great grandparents, William Donaldson and Eliza Mercer.
My father never knew his family as he was fostered out at a very young age. His mother's name was Margaret Donaldson and what we've been able to find out about her would indicate she was William and Eliza's daughter.
He was born in Christchurch NZ and she was 32 when she had him, but it's not clear if any of her family knew she had had a child. I would love to know if you have any information about her.
Thank you.
I would also like to find out more about Jean Donaldson and add her here to the journal. I have not (at this time) found her husband or where she was buried. I know the post is now 4 years old Holly123 but here's hoping :)
