Elusive William Walkers of the Midlands, UK

Journal by KableWalker

I'm researching my ancestor William Walker who married Gertrude Lawrence in Walsall, UK, 1896 and sailed to New Zealand where they brought up their family. I have followed many William Walkers via online databases but I'm not satisfied that I have found his father's marriage to Eliza ??, who is mentioned as 53 years old in the 1901 UK Census. I'm busy looking at all the William Walkers who could have married an Eliza when they were both aged around 19 to 25. The Staffordshire parish and census registers don't all seem to have been transcribed because I can't find Eliza and the family in any other Censuses than 1901. Obviously, with there being thousands of William Walkers, I can't order all their birth certificates to take a look at my grandfather's parent's names, so I'm stuck with a hard grind. Has anyone encountered any records of Doris Walker (daughter of my father's uncle) who was born in Pondicherry, India? She definitely existed, as I met her several times. She was born around 1902 to 1910 while her father was in the British military I believe. I was helped by someone who found some of my relatives on the Gilbert Family website, but the connections were not all logical given what I know about family origins. I'd love to help anyone who wants the state or national records consulted here in South Australia as I'm used to library research, having been a health researcher.

Retired and chafing at the bit to resume traveling when COVID bites the dust.
