England, Canada to USA search ancestors trail
When searching for an elusive father for a friend, all I had to go with was a name and "Sheffield England" also learning the father ended
up in USA...I checked first with National Archives Canada, which is a
very helpful site, I found the father had gone from England, at age 16
on the "Newfoundland", Furnace Lines, his passage being aided by the
"British Immigration and Colonization Association", which was one of several agencies involved in the Canadian Immigration Campaign, to lure young English boys to go to Canada as immigrant farm laborers.
The next issue was finding him in USA....found him married in Franklin Vermont, which is close to Canadian border. Lots of people seem to have dissappeared but they were actually "border jumpers", so if you are looking for ancestors in Lower Quebec....check also with
the border states, good hunting.!!
