Establish the origin of the Cordon's in South Africa
I have a grandfather, Rudolf Cordon, apparently from a mission station (Goedverwacht) in the Piketberg area, Western Cape, South Africa. I did a search in the baptism register of the Moravian church of Goedverwacht. I came across a number of Cordon's in that register, but no Rudolf Cordon.
I have decided to speak to people who may have some information about the Cordon's in the area, but so far it seems that there are no Cordon's left in that area. However, I was told that a group of families moved out of the area in the middle 1920's and moved to Kraaifontein - about 40 km from Cape Town. My understanding is that there were Cordon's in this group, but at census time they were told that there is no such surname as Cordon. they were subsequently registered as Gordon.
I am still in the process of establishing the link or connection between the Cordon's from Goedverwacht and the Gordon's from Kraaifontein.
I am at the same time trying to find out if there were any Cordon's who emigrated to South Africa from any other country, or if any soldiers with the surname of Cordon were posted to South Africa to fight during the Anglo Boer Wars and subsequently stayed behind, etc etc. Maybe somebody out there may find a record of such an incident.
