Etheridge, London 1800's

Journal by Billybob776

My Great Grandfather was the son of Etheridge of London and was kicked out of home aged 9 years for cutting the back crust off a loaf of bread. His name was William Etheridge and he was found by a family called Pearce wandering around East London. The Pearce family adopted him and he was given the surname Pearce. He grew up and married and
had a family and they all emigrated to New Zealand in the late 1800's.The names of his sons were William, Charles,Thomas and Ernie. William my Grandfather learnt to walk on the sailing ship because it took so long in those days to reach New Zealand. William grew up and married and had three children William, Thomas and June. Thomas was my father and he died in 1997 and is survived by me William Pearce and my sister Susan Brown.

The Etheridge family were rich London landowners and William was an only child. The Etheridges evetually passed away and all their money, buidings and land were held in Chancery because nobody had searched for relatives or beneficaries. My Grandfather William Pearce looked into this in 1935 and it was going to cost 36000 pounds to look into this inheritance. No one had that sort of money so nothing was done about it. I imagine the money has long gone into someones coffers but the are relatives out in the world.

hello, I don't know if this will be of any help to you but one never knows. My grandfather was Edwin Pearce, his father was William John Pearce and his father was also called William. William John came to Australia in June 1875.
Could this be on some help?
Good luck.
Vjay.
