FAMILY : CHIVERS & FORRESTER
Primarily researching families CHIVERS and FORRESTER. Family CHIVERS were from Templestowe, Victoria. Family FORRESTER, after years of research, the paternal side appears to have originated in Kilmaronock, Dumbartonshire, Scotland. The maternal question remains unanswered and is a mnajor brickwall.
John Whyte FORRESTER married Joyce CHIVERS in Perth, West Australia, Australia on the 4th October 1946. John had been sent to Australia, from Hampshire, England to Fairbridge Farm School in Pinjarra, Western Australia as a 10 year old child emmigrant. A copy of his birth certificate states he was born on the 19th October 1917 at Holmstead, Shanklin, Isle of Wight. Father, Walter Forrester. Mother, Emily Forrester nee Morley. Father's address is shown as Accountant, 28 Great Portland Street, London. My wife and I have been to this address and have been advised that in 1917 it was used as War Office accomodation.
Whilst in England, my wife and I visited a member of the FORRESTER family who was very taken aback on learning about John. It is obvious that this family knew nothing about John or his father's marriage. This was further verified when we spoke another member of the FORRESTER family.
John's father, Walter, was a serving member of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 8th Battalion A company, who had been severely wounded in World War 1. He was hospitalised for many months until his death, of war wounds, on the 21st January 1920.
We can only assume that Walter FORRESTER met Emily MORLEY during his hospitalisation. We don't have any details on their marriage but we know that they went to the Isle of Wight for the birth of John Whyte FORRESTER. This birth was acknowledged in a local newspaper.
The only reference we have to Emily MORLEY are three addresses gained from old correspondence and there is much uncertainy about these. The three addresses are as follows : [1] Residence Mrs E. Morley - White, 45 Priory Road, Hampstead - 9 May 1934, [2] Mrs E. Morley - White C/- Mrs Carter, Inkoudind Maritzburg, South Africa - 9 December 1934, [3] Mrs E. Morley - White, C/- Richard Carter, Woolstone near Greytown, South Africa - 14 February 1935
My wife has written to South Africa requesting information but, to date, has received no response.
I have been researching the CHIVERS / FORRESTER genealogy for approximately 10 years and have used many variations of Morley, Morley - White, Morley - Whyte, Whyte and Forrester but, to date, have had no success. Here's hoping that someone, somewhere, may have an answer,
