Familypedia - the largest semantic wiki for genealogy

Journal by ngairedith

Have you discovered Familypedia yet

It is the largest semantic wiki for genealogy

This database derives from a genealogical repository of insufficient encyclopedic interest to be an integral part of Wikipedia

The site is multi-faceted: It captures details on individuals, both historically significant people and everyday people usually not listed in encyclopedias, histories, or even "people's histories" and provides such other information as:

* the backgrounds and meanings of names
* documentation for family trees and quick links to recorded ancestors, siblings, and descendants
* other relationships that often determine who people are

The site aspires to be truly global, with active contributors and information from cultures and regions world-wide

As at October 2010 there were 84,630 pages and 21,932 photos on this wiki

The site provides help on creating articles and has indexs for Surnames by Last Name, Birth Place, Birth Decade, Death Place and Death Decade

You can search people, families or places with 7,000 sub categories

The site has three major purposes:

* It serves as a repository of family history information ? facts about people and how to find more facts
* It allows people to add to that repository by editing existing articles
* It allows people to create entirely new articles about family members, places, or sources and connect them into a network of related people, events, and places.

You can create your own article or edit someone elses
(avalable in Deutsch ? English ? Fran?ais ? Espa?ol ? Nederlands)
