- his father died in 1870 from drowning in the Wellington Harbour

Frederick married Mary Ann HARRIS 3 Dec 1863 at st Pauls Wellington
- Mary Ann was a daughter of Luke HARRIS & Charlotte NEWMAN who arrived in Wellington 17 Feb 1842 on the CLIFTON
- her father died in 1878 when he 'fell' off the roof of the Empire Hotel in Masterton. Foul play was suspected
