George Dautel from Germany and family
Looking for more information on George Elmer Dautel, He was born in Berlin, Germany around 1830, parents unknown. Not even sure if the spelling of the name is correct. I know this is how we spell it today. All I can find is what other relatives have told me. Would like to know more about where the family originated from.
Family lore is that he was a stowaway on a boat leaving Alsace at the age of 14 and landed in PA. No records have been found to show that he applied for citizenship in the US. He married a Matilda Bankes and had children of which I have alot of information on. Records also show that he served in the civil war in a branch from Ohio but once again can't find any records of enlistment.

My grandfather was George Washington Dautel, the son of John George Dautel ( a pharmacist in NY city).
He was born in 1881 in New York, lived in Blauvelt, NY (Rockland County) at the family country estate, until he died of heart failure at Nyack Hospital, NY in 1963.
He was married (my grandmother) to Elenora Stauffacher, (one of four girls born to Peter Staffacher) on July 31, 1912, and my mother, Eleanor Gertrude Dautel was born September 23, 1913, their only child. My Mom died in 1978 from lung cancer. (big smoker.)
My mother was married to Samuel Ignatios MacDonnell (from Nyack, NY), in 1938.
I am Daniel MacDonnell (3/1/1950) and have four siblings:
Phyllis ( 1948); Douglas (1945), Gregory (1940)& Thomas (1938).
His father was John George Dautel, a pharmacist in NY city in the late 1800's.
