George Prestage Co Wicklow - New South Wales Australia

Journal by Cara_Links

George was born in Newbridge-Nown known as Avoca Co Wicklow Ireland.
he died in Griffiths New South Wales Australia perhaps in or around 1937.
He married twice - Margaret Forrest circa 1898 in Hillston New South Wales and is supposed to have had 8 children to this wife
Elizabeth Vera 1898
Florence Catherine Margaret 1901
Richard Prestage - I know nothing of
Georgina Elizabeth - I know nothing of
Sheila Agnes -circa 1909 I know nothing more
Helen Melba -1912 -I know nothing more
Norman James -1914 - Iknow nothing more
Alfred A - 1906- nothing more known

He then had a second family when he married Muriel Florence Evelyn Davis circa 1921 at Hillston
and had a further 7 children

I am able to put anyone researching these families in touch with Irish ancestors, as well as add data the family tree but I am a starnger to New South Wales research and am seeking help with this family
Thankyou for taking the time to read this message

Search for my journals on genealogy in NSW for great tips. Also register as a new user at RootsChat then goto their Emigrants to Australia board. Lots of rootschatters eager to assist. Most have bdm indexes on cd-rom.

Hi,Patricia, Hedderm
Im not sure how to contact you direct, but Norman James was from the first family of George and Margaret, he was my husbands grandfather and George was his great grandfather. We have currently just started to research his family so we can give our children some history of the past. Does anyone know how Georges first wife Margaret passed away? Would love to have feedback,
I posted a vote on the side, so hoping you may get an email??
Regards,
Jo.

Sorry Cara-Links, I couldn't resist Girt by sea. I might have been isolated with this pandemic for too long. Perhaps this newspaper article will make up for it.
Stay safe.
The Hillston Spectator and Lachlan River Advertiser, Thursday 24 June 1937
....MR. G. PRESTAGE.

Receiving severe internal injuries
when the motor car he was driving
crashed into a channel near Griffith
some weeks ago, Mr. George Prestage died
as a result of that accident on Monday morning
at the age of 74 years.
The late Mr. Prestage came to Hillston district
when a young man, and in his early life was
engaged as a teamster, being well-known on
the long trek between Hillston and the
railhead at Carrathool in those days.
Later he took up land a few miles from Hillston,
and went in for farming pursuits.
Some years ago he disposed of his farming property
at Hillston and went to reside at Griffith,
where he acquired several properties.
He maintained an interest in Hillston,
where he owned several town properties.
Deceased was twice married, four daughters and
two sons being of the first family (Mrs. W. H. Edwards
and Mrs. S. S. Wilson of Hillston),
being two of the daughters. Of the
second marriage, he leaves a wife, 2
sons and 4 daughters to mourn their loss.
