Will documents for Elizabeth Scott (nee Vickers) indicate that she was born in Kettering, Northamptshire. A possible Kettering family has been located. For more information go to http://amscott.tribalpages.com

thank you for the link amscott,
The Scott Families Tree, Scott's from Londonderry, Ireland & England + Unwin's, Woolcock's & others

your tree is certainly growing and you have some wonderful photos
especially the spectacular flowers that grow in your garden and the obvious hard work to achieve this despite the 2011 earthquake

Hi ngaireedith,

I was just reading through some of the older postings and I must have missed the one in which you made the comment about the flowers. Thank you very much for the comment. I am still trying to keep the garden colourful in the summer. We are still waiting for substantial earthquake repairs to the house. It looks like these will be done late 2016 at the earliest. Insurance Companies require the Insurance Premiums to be paid quickly and on time but are slow when it comes to paying out themselves. Government organization hold ups are the biggest part of the problem. However, in the meantime, we can live on inside our house, very much as normal, so we are not in too much of a hurry. Unfortunately there are many households in Christchurch where people have had to move out for a considerable period of time and are still waiting for repairs or a rebuild. It is very unfair of the Insurance Companies including the Government's EQC and Southern Response to keep these households waiting so long.

Regarding George Scott and Elizabeth Vickers. There is some evidence to suggest that they may have arrived in Christchurch as COTT's and changed their name to SCOTT. No definite proof however. I have therefore, decided to put the Cott's in The Scott Families Tree (see tree link in your previous message) as a separate family pending proof. If anyone is interested, go to George Cott and read his notes. Also notes for George Scott (d 1877).

I may never get the proof I need to say that George Cott and George Scott were one in the same. I think there is a good chance they were but I am not prepared to publish this as a fact unless absolute proof is forthcoming. I would hate to re-write history incorrectly. Especially that of my g.grandfather. Therefore separate families at present for the Cott's and Scott's and hopefully, one day, someone will find the proof needed for a link.

A lot of research has been done since my previous posting. It is now virtually certain that George COTT and George SCOTT were one in the same. I have pubished this information in my Tribalpages.com site.

Hi Ngairedith,

A few years since we corresponded on this subjsect. Since then I have had a DNA test done through Ancestry.com. This proved my early research data about George Cott/Scott and Elizabeth Vickers was correct. It is all in the Tribalpages tree. George Cott did change his name to SCOTT on arrival in Christchurch, NZ, in 1865. Elizabeth Vickers traveled as his wife and George was a steward on the Blue Jacket. I have DNA matches to descendants of Elizabeth's siblings. Also to descendants in the USA tracing from a son of George Cott/Scott's first marriage. That son was born as George Litson COTT and also changed his name to Scott when he immigrated to the USA. In addition, I have a link to a Humphries descendant. George's mother was a Humphries.

Great to get all these DNA links to prove my research was correct as there were a few relatives who thought I was on the wrong track. They prefered to believe incorrect family stories passed down through the years.

It is all in the Tribalages tree for which you put a link in this section of correspondance. If it is of interest to anyone, click on that link and view the George Cott/Scott section on the home page and also go to the notes for George COTT alias SCOTT (name I have used for him in the tree) and for Elizabeth Vickers.

Thanks for all the postings in past years, Very much appreciated.

Families in New Zealand that are descended from the GEORGE COTT-SCOTT and ELIZABETH VICKERS partnership include the following - BALL, HOMES, HAYWARD, HARRIS, HULL, and SCOTT.
