George Washington King
My mother, Marie (King) Davis was the granddaughter of George Washington King and Celia Mae Harrison. They married in Mecklenburg County, NC
Mother's parents were William Monroe King (son of George and Celia) and Annie Lee Foster King, who was from the area of Talledega, Alabama...Silver springs, that is now called Seale, Alabama.
Mother said that her grandfather George always said that he was from Ireland but we do not know anything about him, before that. We do have a list of his children, their marriages, and the names of some of their children. I knew, my great Aunt Mattie great Uncle Jeff's wife, and great Aunt Lizzie who married a Davis. My maiden name was Davis also. I knew great Uncle John King, also. His wife was Bertha Hinson. I met her once and, one of their granddaughters when she and I were teens. Her last name was Gordon.
Of course, I know Mother's siblings, their wives and children. Only Aunt Ernestine King Stewart is living now. We have a record of these and of George and Celia's children.
Celia caught her dress on fire on January 30 of 1897, ran out into the yard (in York County SC) and died that night.
I do have other information about some of them.
