Journal by Tiffaney

I have a James GRAHAM b. 1840 in Tasmania, Australia who married Jane Charlotte TATTERSALL b.1840 in Bothwell, Tasmania, Australia.
Unfortunately can find no record of their marriage but belive they emigrated to Christchurch, New Zealand about 1876 with their family.
Their children were:
1. Mary Ann Graham b. 14 May 1860 in Sorell, Tasmania.
2. James Lewis Graham b. 14 Jan 1863 in Sorell Tasmania.
3. Clara Ada Graham b.14 June 1865 in Sorrell, Tasmania
4. Richard Ernest Graham b.5 Dec. 1868 in Sorell, Tasmania.
5. Elizabeth Martha Graham b.2 Sept 1871 in Sorell, Tasmania

6. William Victor Valentine Graham b.14 Feb 1874 in Sorell
Tasmania.
7. Florence Elitha Naria Graham b.1 Oct 1876 in Christchurch, NZ
8 Lily Theresa Jane Graham b.8 Apr 1879 in Christchurch, NZ
9. Caroline Emma Graham b.19 Feb 1882 in Okains Bay, Canterbury, NZ

James Graham b 1840, father may have been Jimison Graham (uncertain).
Where was he from, when did he arrive in Australia where & when did he marry? His mother may have been Mary or Martha (uncertain).

A fellow researcher found a Jamieson Graham who was a convict on Hibernia arriving VDL in 1819 but we're not sure if he is our man.

Help greatly appreciated by both myself & two fellow researchers.

Thank you,
Tiffaney

Hi Tiffany

I am researching he Tattersall/Graham families for a friend. The story handed down in her family about the Grahams was that Jimmison's parents were wealthy landowners in Scotland. He married beneath his station so was kicked off the estate. Times were hard and he was caught poaching a hare from the estate and because of his parents standing were put on a ship bound for Tasmania and told never to return to Scotland. I have searched under the name James (Jimmison probably just meant the son of Jimmy).
I have searched the incoming immigrant ships to Tasmania for both James Graham and Mary Graham and found no trace of them. I followed up with ships arriving in Victoria(they could have travelled to Tasmania from there) and found entries for both James Graham and Mary Graham arriving on the ship FERGUSSON Jan 1841 - James was 20, Mary 19.
Sarah Waters - I found her convict record of her descripion with "Holborn" on the record. There is an IGI record of a Sarah Waters b Holborn, London Oct 1811, parents John Waters and Margaret - haven't followed up this family yet.
John Tattersall - have his Convict Record for Behaviour which makes interesting reading. If you would like the web address for these records pls let me know.

I hope some of these details are of use.

Cheers
