Hancock Family from Sheffield, England
I am struggling to make progress on my family tree because I don't know anything other than my grandfather George Hancock, and his mother's name was Lily Ball. According to Ancestry.com, the man she married was Cornelius Hancock, but I can't find any other record of him. If anyone could help, I would be grateful. Thank you. x

I'm not a Hancock family researcher but I have also encountered many spots in Ancestry/Census/UKBMD etc where only one of the person's Christian names was used in a record and then another in others. My father's birth is only registered under his 2nd christian name, his sister has her birth under her second name and her 1891 census record in the other etc. With a surname as common as Walker it makes it a real shocker to trace people! I imagine Hancock is a little easier but can be just as confusing. Just keep searching for records on both and see if you can find a mother and father with the same surnames as the parents of either George or Cornelius and you have solved one step! I had the weird experience of discovering my uncle, who was born on a British ship en route to Australia was actually registered as born in the country that owned the island where he was closest to at birth!! That was a very long search! No one in the family has ever spoken Spanish or Portugeuse so it was hard to apply for details!
Hope you get past your hump!
Cheers

Do you have any documents to verify George's mother as Lily Ball??
I found this marriage for a Cornelius Hancock & Lily Ball but it is 1934 and without dates it's hard to say if it is the right Cornelius Hancock.

To help in your research the best way is to start with yourself and work backwards

It may cost a bit to get the paperwork but at least you will have the correct details and documents to verify everything.

I also found a marriage in 1904 for a Thomas Hancock to a Lily Ball
we need some indication of the ages of the people you are looking for.
Thank you for the help guys.
They married in 1934. I know that my great-grandma Lily married three times. All I know about Cornelius is that he married her in 1934 and he died around 1945.
