Hannant Family - Queensland and England
I would like to hear from any descendants of Henry Hannant - (born Buxton Norfolk England 1826 - died Ipswich Queensland Australia 1910) and Jane Golding /Goulding - (born Middlesex England 1830 - died Hattonvale Queensland Australia 1902.
From a copy of Henry and Jane (Goulding) Hannant's marriage certificate the following information was found.
1852. Marriage solemnized at the District Church of St Peter in the Parish of Stepney in the County of Middlesex. Married on 27 June 1852, Henry Hannant, age 26, bachelor, his occupation - omnibus conductor, his residence at the time of marriage was 39 Wellington Place, his father is Richard Hannant and Richards rank or profession is a Tailor. Jane Goulding was 21, a spinster, her residence at the time of marriage was 39 Wellington Place, her father was John Goulding and he was a Pensioner. The witnesses were Henry Manning and Louisa Hopkins.
Henry and Jane had 11 children. Henry's parents were Richard Hannant - 1799-1881 and Charlotte Gooch - 1800-1875.
I believe Richards father is William Ward Hannant and his mother is Sarah Smith.
I would like to know if anyone has any information regarding (a newspaper article headed - Rosewood Pioneering Reminiscences by Kola Knut)In this article is a photo of Henry and Jane. I have a photocopy of a photocopy and would very much like to see the original article for a good copy of the photos. The photos were lent by a Mrs Hucker. I have never been able to locate anyone with a connection to a Mrs Hucker to find out if the photographs still exist.
Thank you
Janice

Hi Janice,
There are still Hucker's living in Queensland. Might be worth contacting them to see if they had rellies living in Rosewood.
Regards,
Charmaine
Hello Charmaine,
I did do a search through Telstra and sent letters 3 or 4 or more years ago. I had no success. Maybe I will try again and see if I get any responses.
Thanks
Janice
Hi Janice,
I guess you could say I am an ancestor! Henry had a brother called William Hannant. William is my great, great grandfather. William and Mary had a son called Norman. Norman and Violet had a son called Gary, and Gary Hannant was my Granddad :). I can't help with the photo, nor do I personally know any ancestor connections in that part of QLD, but my Grandparents do have the original portraits of William and Mary - this is an electronic version I found online. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwij9c32nNjgAhUYcCsKHX3OAIgQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.myheritage.com%2Fnames%2Fwilliam_hannant&psig=AOvVaw05MVGI6DY9Kpxwcvsm0fV3&ust=1551230190697702
Daryl Hannant (another descendant from William) has done a lot of family history and if you contact him via "my heritage" he may be able to help you track down the right person/the original photo of Henry.
Goodluck! Corina
Hello Corina,
Am I correct - your mum is Maree and your Dad is Rodney?
Henry and Jane Hannant are the original couple who came to Australia. They had 10 children. William (their 4th child and 2nd son) and his wife Margaret had 7 children.
One is Moreton (who married Daisy Strenzel) - my grandfather.
Norman (the 3rd child and 2nd son)(who married Violet Strenzel) is a an older brother to Moreton.
Two brothers married two sisters.
Norman and Violets son Geoff was a cousin of my Dad. They were good mates. So Geoff would be your gt uncle.
I too came across the photos but they are very low resolution - not very clear. If you ever track down someone who could send me a higher resolution image of William and Margaret, please let me know. I would be happy to pay for them.
Is Daryl Hannant you mentioned, a son of Joe Hannant? I had been told that he had passed. This is obviously not the case if you say he is on "My heritage".
Thanks for contacting me.
Cheers
Janice
Hello Janice and Corina
Janice, yes, I am still around. I had a break from looking at the family tree, but have just started looking at it again.
Dad (Joe) passed away on 27th September, 2012, and Mum (Marj) on 22nd September, 2010.
I have our tree out to John Hennant (born 1551, died 1619) who married Avis Wrye (born 1555) in 1576 at Ridlington Norfolk.
BUT, and it is a BIG but, I have not done any real confirmation on this as I have only used free sites mainly Family Search to gather my information.
Corina, I have not had any luck getting information on your grandma Laurel. Don't know why but cannot find anything on the internet about their marriage. I could tell you lots of good stories about staying with Gary and Laurel on school holidays when I was a young boy back in the 50's.
I have kept all my information in an excel spreadsheet. I found that easier to manage than a family tree application. Maybe one day I will change. :-)
Happy to pass on any information I have.
Daryl
Hello Daryl, Lovely to hear you are still around. A good reason to not believe every hint that shows up on online family trees. I too have no information on Laurel. I have a wedding photo and that's about it.
My Dad Errol, was a good mate of Geoff Hannant. Geoff came up here once or twice when Dad first came to the area.
I remember Dad talking about Joe. When Dad told me his real name, he didn't know why / how the name Joe came about.
I ended up deleting a lot of the family tree past 1745. I was getting so many hints and information, that was conflicting in one way or another.
I think a few people take everything on board and end up with an overload of data and don't go back and correct it.
I would like to swap information with you Daryl. Email or post. Which works for you? You might be able to add to and correct where I am wrong.
Thanks for replying.
Cheers
Janice
Hi Janice
Uncle Geoff was a great person. It was really sad when he passed away so early in life. I am not sure how dad got to be called Joe so I am asking around to see if anyone else knows.
My email address is dnkhannant@bigpond.com
Please send me an email and I will forward my spreadsheet to you. I got a lot of information from Family Search, so I am hoping there is some truth behind it.
Daryl
