Actually, Valentine was Ordered by the Court, in Oct 1880, to be sent to Kohimarama.
Have you tried to find when Valentine left the School
Might be easier to track if you have some dates. Although it appears that it was a very lax place and kids 'deserted' frequently anyway
Nominal Rolls, Industrial Schools 1882-1910. The rolls give a child?s name, age, date of admission and arrangements. Each industrial school has its own record in the nominal roll with alphabetical listings of names. In early years these Rolls include various Orphanages and Industrial Schools:
In the years 1870-1882 children were sent to the Naval Training School and to the Kohimarama Industrial School after it was opened. Howe Street Industrial School took mainly girls to 14 years. Among other industrial schools were ?Door of Hope? in Cook St.

worth a look
Him thanks, yes I'm a member of Archives NZ and they have a wealth of information. Unfortunately I have been through the rolls and there is a period missing and it just happens to be when Valentine would have arrived and a page made for him. I will certainly follow though the suggestion regarding tracking when he may have left the school, thats for the idea.
