... HEDGE - June 10, accidently drowned in the Rangitata River, Henry, beloved husband of Emily Hedge; aged fifty years. Deeply regretted
... Mr Henry Hedge, well-known in Christchurch as a dealer, was drowned in the Rangitata River on Friday, while crossing the river with a light can drawn by two horses. Mr Hedge was a married man with a family and his wife resides in Bath Street, Christchurch. The body was removed to Ealing, where the inquest commenced yesterday, but was adjourned until to-day to enable friends from Christchurch to identify the body. Particulars obtained later show that Mr Hedge was the purchaser of the Jubilee Kinematograph from the Christchurch syndicate which was showing in Christchurch recently. He took it to Dunedin and after exhibiting it there for a time he sold it. He was returning to Christchurch with his horses and wagon when the accident occurred

... At the adjourned inquest at Ealing on the body of Henry Hedge, of Christchurch, a verdict of "Accidentally drowned" was returned. The jury added a rider recommending that notice boards should be erected warning person against attempting to ford the river in light vehicles
EMILY remarried to William Charles SAVAGE in 1899. She died 25 April 1912 and her probate was in Auckland.
