Searching family for Edward Birchenough 1902 from Ardwick Manchester - Now found thanks to Boru

Journal by eastville

I am stuck tracing my family tree with my Grandfather Edward Birchenough born in 1902 in Ardwick Manchester. I understand that he had a sister and three brothers, Gertrude, Bernard, Arthur and Thomas. I can find Edward and Thomas on freebmd. I have no idea when his sister or two brothers were born. Nor do I know who their parents are.

From Familysearch;
Edward Birchenough
Born :02 Jul 1902
baptism : St. Silas' Church, Ardwick, Lancashire, England
Parents : Albert Birchenough + Ada

From this information, I have found the rest of Edwards family;

Albert (1865) and Ada Sturgess (1866) were married in Oldham, registered Sep 1885. Albert was born in Mscclesfield and Ada in Cheadle Staffs.

In 1891 or there abouts they moved to Salford, Gertrude birth was registerd in Chorlton in Sep 1890. Bernard birth was registed in Oldham in Jun 1896, Arthur birth was registed in Salford in Dec 1891. My Grand father, Edward was born in Ardwick, registered in Chorlton Jun 1902.

Many thanks to Boru, just the key to inlocking my family tree.

I should know his date of birth, but can't put my hand on it at present.

In 1881 Albert was living with his sister, Mary 1856 and her husband Frederick Lees 1857 with brother George 1861 and Sarah 1869. Alberts father Charles 1822 died in 1874. I do not know eher his mother Hannah 1834, I can't find any record of her death. May be she was in a home.

I can't find any record of Charles and Hannah marriage. From 1871 census Hannah was only 14 when she gave birth to their first child, Thomas 1848. They also had Maria born 1871, she died age 3 (1874).

I can't seem to find Charles in 1841 census, I can only find one Charles in Aston Under Lyne, I think I can rule this Charles out as he was born in Ashton not Maccelesfield.

Good Afternoon Stephen.
I was looking up my late uncle ' Bernard Birchenough ' and came across your page on family tree circles.
Quite possibly Bernard married my Aunt - Florence Henning ( Florrie )
Bernard died in 1954 and Florence on January 4th 1966.
Both were cremated at Manchester Crematorium - Southern Cem.

In your notes you mention Ada & Arthur - I think grave GC1166 Philips Park Cemetery. As my cousin tells me Bernard used to visit it. The first person in the grave is a Thomas Sturgess.

I know that Uncle Bernard had a nephew ' Thomas ' who I met at Aunty Forrie's funeral- he will be early 70's or thereabouts.

As a young boy I remember meeting ' Aunty Gertie ' but no idea who she was related to !!! as I was young.

Hope this may help you...……

Kind regards Alfred..... may come up as my first name James !!
