Help with locating ancestors of John McPherson of Kyneton, VIC, Australia
EDIT: I have located the parents and ancestors of John McPHERSON. John's parents were Peter McPHERSON and Mary CARMODY. They married 02 FEB 1856 in Kyneton, VIC, Australia.
Peter's parents were Ewan McPHERSON and Catherine McMILLAN.

I have been trying to locate the ancestors of my great-grandfather, John McPherson. His marriage and death certificate state he was born in Kyneton, Victoria, Australia to Peter McPherson and Mary Melrose.
John was born approximately 1864 and married Charlotte Julia Sue-Cook in Qld in 1894. He died in Qld in 1908.
I have not been able to locate any reference of his birth or connection of Peter and Mary as a couple - only as in-laws.
Can anyone assist me with my research!!!

Looks like you have a wee problem janmar.
I know of the MCPHERSON lines in the Kyneton area but there is no Peter MCPHERSON and Mary MELROSE, nor is there a marriage for them.
There was a Peter MCPHERSON married to a Mary CROSS in 1856 but no children have been recorded for them.
We then have a Peter MCPHERSON and Mary MCCORMICK in Kyneton. They only had the one son, Peter. He was born in 1866 but only lived for six months.
And there was a Peter MCPHERSON and Mary CARMODY having two daughters in Kyneton in 1867 and 1871.
It's very strange there are three Peter MCPHERSON's all with a wife named Mary in Kyneton, but none with the surname of MELROSE. Very odd indeed.
I'm now wondering if this could be the same Mary with a habit of changing her name for some unknown reason. It could also be possible the Mary CROSS Peter married in '56 is the same Mary.
Thanks for your response Tonkin. II have previously found those families, but no sign of my John fitting in the picture.
From my research, if it is of interest to you, Peter McPHERSON and Mary CARMODY had 6 children, Emily, Mary, Alexander, John, Sarah and Catherine.
Do you have any further information on Mary CROSS - her other assumed names?
Queensland deaths for Peter McPherson John's parents may have gone there too. Could have left Kyneton after the gold rush.

Thanks Janilye - I have Charlotte's details - she and John were my great-grandparents.
She and John married in Qld in 1894. Until I can make any sort of connection with Peter McP and Mary Melrose, I don't suppose I can go much further (:
Thanks Janilye - unfortunately that Mary McPherson (Melrose) was not with Peter McPherson.
The only Mary CARMODY I've seen was born in County Clare, Ireland and died in Kyneton in 1917. She was married to a Peter McPherson he came from Scotland and died at Kyneton in 1914. They had a daughter Emily born in Kyneton in 1857 and she married a David COWAN 1847-1924. I have seen a COWAN tree in the past but don't really remember any other details. If you think it's worthwhile I could have a look.
janmar I am also a descendant of John McPherson and Charlotte Julia Sue-Cook. I have a copy of his death certificate and Peter McPherson and Mary Melrose are listed as his parents. They are listed as farmers. It also says that John was born in Kyneton. Which of John and Charlotte's children are you related to, please. I am related to Emily.
Hi there, I am descended from Emily's brother, Donald Angus. Don was my grandfather whom married Elsie MARQUARD. Their son, Trevor was my father. My email address is marjan@ozvetting.com.au and I would love to correspond more with anyone connected to these families.
This is really bad timing as I am just about to leave on a fortnights holiday. I will get in contact as soon as I can.
Sounds great. Enjoy your holiday.
