I am researching the family MIELL from Wilts in UK.
George MIELL married Christian MINTY and they moved to Australai were the surmane had some variations Thus Miels, and Miells.Centerd generally around littlehampton near Adelaide In South Australai the men were brickmakers maltsters.

I've recently traced the family back to the mid-1500s when the surname was Maslen or in some cases Maslin. Do you know why the name changed to Miell and then to Miles/Miels?

George's father was George MASLEN 1781-1864 and his mother Hester Miell nee WADWORTH 1777-1855. When George was born they were not married, Hester was the widow of William MIELL. Therefore George was raised under his mother's married name.
I also think Christina Minty's name on her marriage certificate is spelt MYNTY
