Politician - State - NSW (MLA or MLC) Born: 1871 London, England. Died: 1934. Born in London, Holman arrived Australia in 1888. He joined the Labor Electoral League in 1891 and became Secretary of the Railways and Tramways Employees? Union in 1893, representing the union on the Trades and Labor Council. He briefly worked as an organiser for the Australian Workers? Union from 1896-1898. Holman studied law and was admitted to the Bar in 1903 and focused his political energies at the state level in New South Wales. Acting Premier of New South Wales for some time, Holman took over from McGowen in 1913 and remained Premier until he was expelled from the Labor party in 1916 over the conscription debate.
