I had a little search of the records, and the only Qld birth registered for 1877 was for Joseph HALPIN son of John HALPIN and Mary DARCY. Was Mary your late grandmother?
Seems to be a few HALPIN birth and death records, origins possibly Ireland.

QLD.
Joseph Halpin was my father. He was born in warick Queensland on 23rd March 1877. The only thing I know about my grandparents is that they were married in Maryborough Queensland on 28th August 1875. On the marriage certificate John Halpin was born at Castletown Delon Westmeath Ireland and Mary Darcy was born at Stonefield Clare Ireland. John Halpin's father was named John Halpin and Mary's father was M8ichael Darcy. That is all I know about any relations on the Halpin side of the family. My father cut himself off from his family aparently. I would like to trace them if I can before I pass on.
Nivens,
I can see some references to John Halpin but there seems to be a few persons with the same names, it would be great if there was a middle name for John then I could eliminate some persons.
Regards
Gerry
Looks like you have now at least gotten back to Ireland with marriage cert info of your grandparents. Now you can register as a new user of the Rootschat site, read their topics on how to post, then goto their Ireland childboards, specific county, and post a lookup request.
You're bound to find your ancestry.
Keep us updated here with what you've found.
Best wishes.
Unfortunately I do not know of a middle name for my grandfather John nor for his father of the same name. I did find ona website for Griffith's Valuations Results 41 to 60 of 82 the name john halpin, Castledowndelvin.which is the name on the marriage certificate. However I don't know how this could help me.
