Hunt, Thomas came to Australia in 1825 (Mead or Meads)

Journal by LibbyHunt

Hunt, Thomas came to Australia in 1825 aboard ship 'Asia'

(Mead or Meads)
Young Thomas' father died and his mother remarried. He was due to inherit property (England) when he turned 21. A few months beforehand, his step brother threw a brick into a jeweller's shop window and tossed Thomas' hat in. Thomas was convicted of burglary and sent as a convict to Australia.

In the 1830s he was freed and married Mary Ann Connell. And the Australian Hunt branch of our family began. He turned his back on old England and his son Henry was the one to keep any records of the incident.

In the 1880s, London solicitors were still looking for Thomas or any direct family members.

During WW1 my grandfather (Thomas' grandson) was injured taken to hospital in England. He was initially mistaken by Lady Hunt as her son, who was also fighting in France. He ended up spending some time recouperating at the Hunt estate. Would love to know more about that!
