Hi trenthamjo,

I just did a quick search of BDM NSW and found that a Harold John Corcoran died in Surry Hills (an inner-west suburb of Sydney) in 1972, aged 72. The reference is 6343/1972, which should help you order a birth certificate.

No record came up for Emma Christina Corcoran by 1982, so either she had moved away from NSW before she died, or she died after 1982.

Good luck with your search.

Thank you for that, Emma and Harold separated and he went to NSW by himself where we think he had another family. On the death certificate it states he was a widower. Emma was still alive in Tasmania. Unfortunately the certificate doesn't give parents names or wife or children so im starting to think that it might not be him. I can't place him in any electoral rolls in New South either

Hello,

Harold Corcoran was my Grandmother's brother. The family left Ampitheatre and moved to South Melbourne, Victoria in the early 1900's. Harold went missing and did not remain in contact with his family - reason unknown.

I thought he may have married Emma Holmberg, but could not clarify this.

How are you related ?

Kind Regards

Sue

Hi Sue
I am actually compiling the tree for a close family friend. She found some paperwork and got curious and gave me the job of researching it. Harold has proved to be a bit of a mystery. I have him in Launceston with Emma up until the 1930's and then he disappears. I will pass on that I have made contact with you to my friend and will let you know more if she agrees.
Will be in contact again soon
Warmest wishes
Jo

Hello Jo,

I am wondering if your friend is interested in the information I have about Harold ? My cousin and I have been searching for him for some years and we would love to know something about him - did he have children and does she know why he did not remain in contact with the family ?

Kind Regards

Sue

Hi Sue

I have just got off the phone to my friend, by the way her name is Susan. I dont have much info abut Harold, but I will fill you in on what we know.
Harold and Emma Christina Holmberg married in 1920 in Victoria, where I am not sure. They had 7 children, 3 girls and 4 boys. 1 of the girls are still alive (Susan's mum) and one of the boys we are not sure about. He disappeared and we are uncertain as to where he is and if he is still alive.
Harold left Emma about 1939 when she was still pregnant with their youngest child. A few weeks ago Sue found a death certificate which was supposed to have been Harold's, however we are doubtful that it is. On it it says his name is Harold John and that he is a widower, however in 1972 Emma was still alive. It also says he is a cook but to our knowledge he was a labourer at the docks.
We have no idea why Harold did not remain in contact with his family and why he left Emma, it is a bit of a mystery.
Where abouts are you based Sue, I am in Melbourne.
Any info you have would be much appreciated and as I find out anything I will let you know.
Warmest of wishes
Jo and Susan

Hello Jo and Susan,

Thank you so much for your reply. I dont know what Harold's occupation was, but I would think that the wharf labourer would be correct.

Fancy leaving a pregnant wife, I can't imagine how Emma managed with 7 children on her own.

I also live in Melbourne and wonder if there is a way to give you my details without them showing on the Web ?

Kind Regards

Sue

Hi Sue, It is now 2015 Do you have any more information on Harold's son John Maurice Corcoran?
My great aunty was Emma C Holmberg who lived in Launceston Tasmania.
