Martha or Marthy Mace appears to have been born around 1826, maybe in Morganton, Burke County, NC USA. She was married to Robert W. (William) Carswell. They had perhaps 7 children. Hosia or Hosea born 1840-?, John Garland Carswell, 1843-1916, Eliza Jane 1848-?, Robert R.1851-Before 1900, S. E. born 1854 female, Lindsey born 1856-?, Christopher M b 1858-?. We have some information but not enough to be satisfied. The problem surrounding this family is, I believe that he had a cousin who was also named Robert, Robert R. Carswell, I am sure of his parents. His wife was listed on family death certificates of the children as Martha (Patsy) Watts born about 1820 and Robert R. Carswell was born about 1816.This comes from Census records and family bible records. Robert R. & Patsy Watts children were Jane born 1845-1937, Lazarus Beam b 1858-1939, Sarah "Sallie" b 1859-?, Nancy b 1863-1940, William b 1965-?, And David Philo b 1867-1952. Robert R. & Patsy Watts are in my own line and I have a lot of information about them. The problem is both families never appear in the Census records at the same time. I am sure that Robert R. and Patsy Watts died 2 days apart for I have heard the family tell the story of their deaths. Some people have used the death date for Robert R. & Patsy Watts as the death date for Robert W. Carswell and Marthy Mace. We cannot find any records for the parents of Martha Mace. We think that Robert W. Carswell's parents were Johnathon (Criswell) Carswell and Margaret Louise Deal. From the information that I have gotten Robert R. Carswell's parents were Johnathon Carswell and Sarah Jane Smith. If anybody out there has something to add and can help us solve this mystery we would really appreciate any help we could get. We have not been able to find anything at all on Martha Mace except for John Garland Carswell's death certificate And some census records. Thank you for reading.
