Hi there,
Just adding some dates to help other readers.
* if this is the family you mean ..
Jeffrey Hall (sometimes spelling in Jeffery) was was born 17 June 1827 in Mark, Somersetshire, England and died 4 Sept 1907 in Taupiri. He married Katrina Marie 'Catherine' Thompson (1854-1932) in Cambridge 5 May 1871 and had 12 children.
* Peter Hall was the 3rd born, on 2 Sep 1876 in Taupiri and died 7 Sep 1936 in Whangaripo
* Jeffrey Hall was the 7th born, 8 Nov 1885 in Taupiri and died 3 March 1961 in Epsom, Auckland
Father Jeffrey Hall was a soldier in the Maori war. He was buried in Taupiri 4 Sep 1907. Katrina 'Catherine' died 27 June 1932. Their headstone reads .. Loving memory of Jeffery Hall. Died at Taupiri Sept 4 1907 aged 81 years. Also his wife Catherine Hall, died at Auckland June 27 1932 aged 78 years. At Rest.
(and a memorial to their 12th child, son Charles)
Also Sergt C. Hall NZR - Died of wounds Passchendaele, Oct 19 1917 Aged 19 years. Greater love hath no man
Awesome. Peter Hall born 2/9/1876 is my Grandfather.
so Jeffrey born 17/6/1827 is my Great Grandfather. I had found reference to his wife as being Katrina but also as being Catherine, which was confusing .. I now see that is the same person. I understand that Katrina was Danish and initially could not speak english.
I am in possession of a silver tilting kettle over a burner with the inscription.
"Presented to Mrs J Hall from residents of Taupiri 1911" This came to me through Peter's wife Lillian. I am puzzled as to who Mrs J Hall is and the circumstances of the presentation.
I will write a journal for you and link here when finished so you will be notified once done
In the meantime, I believe it is possible the kettle was a wedding gift to Ruby & Jeffrey Mrs J. Hall. They married 8 Nov 1911
Don't think that would work.
The kettle has been engraved with the wording "Presented to Mrs J Hall by the residents of Taupiri 29th August 1911"
I wonder what became of Katrina (Catherine) Marie Hall nee Thompson after Jeffrey died in 1907. She would have been Mrs J Hall.
Ah! you first only said 'Presented to Mrs J Hall from residents of Taupiri 1911' Dates make a big difference
Catherine is buried in Taupiri with Jeffrey
The family journal is a large one and I'm only half way through at this time. All will be revealed by tomorrow I'd say
well, Murphy's Law, I was nearing the finish of the journal and NZ BDM went off line for updates.
I will continue from tomorrow, so keep going back to it
