I am trying to locate Peter W. Bates who married Hanah Eberly, both born in York, PA around 1812/13 I would guess. They moved to Ohio, year unknown, and were the parents of several children including my great-grandfather, William E. Bates who was born in Indiana and served in the 7th Iowa Cavalry in the Civil War. I have information on the family from William H. Bates and his wife, Millie Marina Allen who were married and lived the rest of their lives in Boone County, Indiana. I will be happy to share that information with anyone who needs it and hope someone can fill me in on what I need.

Carol_J2 on 2010-05-24 17:53:58The only John Bates I know of is my great-uncle, John who ws born in Boone County,Indiana, to William E. Bates, who was my gret-grandther. John was the brother of Robert Ollie Bates, my grandfather. John married essierist in 1878, also in Boone County. So far, that's the only one I know of.
Carol_J2 on 2010-05-24 19:01:48Here s what I have on the first John Bates. This is the only other John Bates I have. Peter W. Bates is the next one in my line, he married Hannah Eberly and they are the parents of William E. Bates and another son named Niles Bates. Recently I heard from the great-granson of Niles because the family had lost track of him after William E. Bates died and Niles came from Missouri to his funeral in Indiana. Niles lived out his life in Missouri where his some of his family still lives.
John Bates, born May 30, 1785, York, PA married Myra Hostetter. Nothing more found on John yet. Their children were:
1. Emily Bates, born, Sept, 28, 1810, York, PA
2. George Bates, born Dec. 14, 1811, York, PA.
3. Peter W. Bates, born Jan. 23, 1813, York, PA
4. Amos Bates, born Aug. 16, 1814
5. Eleanor Bates, born March 11, 1816, York, PA
6. Susanna Bates, born Aug. 28, 1818, York, PA
