Information on DENNIS of Rangiora ChCH New Zealand

Query by Sanz21

Looking for information on my grandparents Arthur George Dennis, married to Madge Adelaide Dennis (Badrick) Arthur died in 1943 and Madge died in 1969, both in Rangiora, Christchurch New Zealand. I have found names of Arthurs parents but nothing on my grandmothers side. My mother was Patricia Audrey, daughter to Arthur and Madge and she has brothers, but i have no other imformation. I would like to go as far back as I can, finding birth places, cousins, aunts and aunts if possible.

hello Sanz,

Adelaide Badrick (1899-1969) was a Telephonist in London in 1915

I take it they married before arriving in New Zealand ?

Yes, thank you Ngairedith. I found that information today. I always knew our grandmother was a war bride, so I guess when Arthur George Dennis went to england during the war , they met and married. I found date of their marriage being 11th April 1918. He was discharged from the army also on that date but a year after they married. It is of much interest to us all, that my older sister Mary was also born on 11th April. I am very new to all this search, but finding things of importance slowly bit by bit. The interest started mainly because my older sister Mary is coming to Christchurch on holiday in a few weeks and I started to look where Nana was buried as she wants to visit her grave. We found that information, so she is happy, but I got inquizative and looked further into making a family tree. May I ask, are you a relative? I do thank you very much for your help.

No I cannot find alot about my grandmother , can find more about Arthur George Dennis, than her. I did see a still birth notice of one of their sons, but apart from that we know nothing except she was a telephonist. I found that in an edinburgh gazette dated October 8, 1915. I would presume from the marriage records they came to NZ around 1919. My mother, Patricia Audrey , was born in 1925 and her father (Arthur George Dennis) died in 1943 so she was just 18 when he died. I do not even know how they came back to NZ becoz he went there during the war, and was injured in France. Whether they came back by passenger ship or thru the army I do not know. I have alot of research to do. I have found father/mother and siblings to Arthur George Dennis (grandfather) but nothing on grandmother Madge. Thanks again ngairedith.

Madge Dennis had a sister, Mrs Dorothy O'Carroll, who was living in 1979 at 28 Bon Accord Road, Swanage, Dorset England. My parents visited her at this address at that time. Madge named her eldest daughter after her sister. My mother was the former Hazel Dobson whose family were neighbours to Madge when she lived at 45 Ayres Street, Rangiora. My mother was a close friend of Madge or Nana D as we well called her.
