Is it possible with Family Tree Maker 16 to add umlauts to German names? If yes, how do I do it?

Question by Scott_J

This is a question from a Family Tree Circles newsletter reader. Unfortunately, I don't have FTM16 to try this on.

Scott Jangro is the owner of FamilyTreeCircles.com and has documented roots back to Mayflower passengers Stephen Hopkins and William Brewster. If you're wondering what he's doing when he's mysteriously absent, here's some links to other stuff he's responsible for: about.me/jangro.

I don't have FTM 16 (or any FTM for that matter), but if it works like any other Windows program, it should allow you to input characters such as those with umlauts, like K?nig and J?rgen.

The easiest way probably to find it typed out somewhere and copy and paste it into the name field. That's what I did in the above paragraph.

The more direct way is to use the proper ALT+num combination to type the character in via the keyboard.

My friend Leo Notenboom has a great explanation here: How do I type in characters and symbols that aren't on my keyboard?
