Hello.
I looked on findmypast for John Richard Morris. The registration is (as you said,) Sept 1/4 1983, volume 21, page 1672. The dob is listed as 19 May 1920.
You can make some enquiries via this link:

Out of interest there is also a Mr John Morris on the Civil Defence Personnel List for 1939. Paying £3:00 per week to a Mr John Morris at address: 6 Phoenix Place, Stonehouse.
Hope this helps.

Thankyou for that I will follow it up.My problem is that I can not find any marriage for John Richard and Joan which is apparently the name the family members remember. I have also looked up births but can not find matches. Their daughter was apparently called Judith. Also john was in the Royal Navy and I have got some records for a John R Morris on Defiance but only rank no. DMX 60504 which may be him.
Was John from Plymouth or was he just living there when he died? Do you have any idea when and where John and Ruth ,married ( any idea of maiden name), Judith when/where was she born ?
You could send for the death cert to see what info is on it.
Do you have any idea who his parents were ?
Yes his father was John William Morris born Kildare Ireland and his mother was Mary Josephine Skuce born Co. Kerry .John Richard was born in Cork City.Have no idea about where he was married , he was in Plymouth because he was in the navy and must have stayed there. That's a good idea about the death cert.I will send for it . Thankyou .
