On the off-chance that someone reads this - I am researching Lilian's father - Peter McAlinden (b.1854) who married Sarah Hannah Barnes in 1876 (she died in 1900) and later Peter married Isabella Hunter.(1901). He was my Great Great Grandfather and died in 1937.

so I am keen to find out more about the family as well.
My great grandfather would be his son Eric Norman Peter McAlinden and his son before marriage was Eric Norman Cudby

Hi to you all - I have been trying to find birth and death certs for Sarah Hannah McAlinden as I believe her Dad was a convict who married an Irish woman. But I can't find definitive proof. They were probably in Ballarat because of the gold rush, but there is a matching John Barnes who stole a coat and was transported for 7 years. He then became a free man and moved to NZ. Sarah Hannah died quite young from cancer. So it was no surprise that her husband, Peter, married Isabella Hunter quite fast as he had 10 surviving kids to look after. They had a pub and there has been an archeological dig that found a heap of pub china (willow pattern plate) which explains why that was my Dad's favourite china! But he never spoke of this to us. He must have know all the aunties and cousins but we were not very aware of the breadth of our links. My NZ cousins sent a couple of pix of Peter and Sarah. Very good looking couple. My tree is Rawady Web Site on myheritage.com. Those of you I can get onto the tree and who email me can read it.

Alfred Weston Kirton was my Dad's uncle. My late Dad was born Kevin Raymond Siddle (14/03/1924 d March 2004) and tweaked the name to Siddell some time after he moved to Australia. He was one of May Bertha Catherine McA (Siddle)'s sons.

Question for NatB - Eric Norman Cudby was 'his son before marriage'? Any details there? Is that because your Gt. Grandfather had a son before he married Lily?

How fascinating and wonderful to read all of these connections.. my maternal grandfather was John Kirton, son of Lily (McAlinden) and Alfred Kirton. My siblings and I have always been curious about Lillian’s Maori middle name Ngaruroro. We were always told it was a “fashionable” thing to do at the time but.. anyone know more?
Any photos of Lily, her family, parents etc would be most welcomed
